Position Summary
The position facilitates communication and understanding of Patient Safety of Deaconess Hospital, assuring the provision of high quality care to the patients served by our institution. The Medical Director of Patient Safety provides medical perspective, knowledge, experience, and leadership to all parts of Deaconess Hospital and facilitates communication between the physicians and administrative leadership.
This is a position that provides substantial input into the direction and operations of Patient Safety and its relationships with Deaconess Health System. It has a wide range of involvements from liaison duties with physicians to the development of patient safety initiatives.
The Medical Director will work closely in these responsibilities with the Chief Medical Officer, and other Medical Directors.
Responsible for Leadership in developing a culture of safety by:
- Serves as Co-Chair of the Quality Committee of the Board for Deaconess Health System. (as per QCB Charter)
- Identifying opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety
- Serves as Patient Safety Committee Co-Chair (as per Patient Safety Committee Charter)
- Working in conjunction with Quality Improvement, Infection Control, Nursing and Medical Staff to develop a vision for patient safety; to create policies, procedures and practices promoting patient safety; and to develop a strategy to evaluate the success of Deaconess toward improving patient safety.
- Ensuring clinical services are provided in accordance with safety standards and established by federal and state regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Providing clinical guidance to the Patient Safety Officer
- Proactively identifying safety opportunities and driving improvements focused on patient safety
- Routinely reviewing data to identify trends and suggest practice improvements
- Applying evidence based approaches to safety initiatives
- Serving as a model and resource for safe practices.

Reports to:
As a Medical Director of Patient Safety, this Physician shall be accountable to the Senior Vice President and CMO.
