Sports Reporter Job at Forum Communications Company
The Dickinson Press has an immediate opening for a Sports Reporter to cover prep and collegiate sports in southwest North Dakota. The Press is a five-day a week newspaper with a growing circulation serving community-driven, professional and hyper-local focused news to the Western Edge.
The sports department focuses on 11 local area high schools and Dickinson State University, a highly regarded and competitive NAIA program.
The 2021 sports section of the year for the state of North Dakota, The Press seeks candidates who desire to maintain and improve the storied and successful history of the oldest newspaper in western North Dakota.
During the summer months, the position will also cover the highly competitive Badlands Big Sticks semi-professional Independence League Baseball team, professional and amateur rodeos and a local dirt-track automotive racing scene. Summers in western North Dakota also provide many opportunities to cover golf tournaments, recreational sports and outdoors activities including hunting and fishing.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter able to produce a strong balance offeatures and enterprise stories alongside typical game recaps and previews. Knowledge of photography is a must as reporters take our own photographs — we will train the right person.
We are looking for someone with at least two years of journalism experience, but strong recent journalism schoolgraduateswill receive serious consideration.
