Probationary Special Education Teacher - High School Level (Grades 9-12) Self-Contained (8:1:2) for the 2023-2024 School Year.
Start Date: September 1, 2023.
The educator will be responsible for teaching groups of students with a range of disabilities. The selected candidate will develop, monitor and adjust instruction to promote the growth of our students which includes their intellectual, emotional, social and physical well-being. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate unquestionable integrity, understand the value of culturally responsive instructional practices and have a firm belief in the potential of all students.
Job Qualifications
General Requirements:
Our ideal candidate should have:
- NYS Permanent or Professional Special Education or NYS Students with Disabilities Certification.
- Candidates who possess other teaching certificates, in addition to special education are preferred.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Familiarity and experience providing instruction and support for students with emotional disabilities and/or behavioral challenges.
- Effective communication skills to engage students, parents, colleagues and the school community as a whole.
Preferred Skills of the Ideal Candidate:
- Demonstrated skill in teaching high school students with social-emotional disabilities in both substantially separate and inclusive settings.
- Knowledge of multi-disciplinary instructional techniques, research-based interventions for teaching academics as well as behavior, and strategies for collecting data and monitoring academic/behavioral progress.
- Familiarity with developing and delivering highly engaging instruction.
- Experience with classroom management, IEP goal development and progress monitoring.
- Able to lead classroom staff and collaborate with other members of the special education team.
- Fully trained in crisis intervention/response such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS).
Salary and Benefits:
According to the SCTA Contract - at least Schedule 1, Step 1 or $54,244.00 depending on experience and transcripts. Competitive benefits.
