Senior Special Programs Coordinator, TRIO-Talent Search Program
MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 5
Campus Location: Select Lynn Public High Schools as assigned - Lynn English, Classical, Vocational Technical High School, Fecteau-Leary High School, and Frederick Douglas High Schools
Work Schedule: 7:30-3:30 Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week
ABOUT TRIO TALENT SEARCH:
The TRIO-Talent Search program is a federally funded TRIO program. The program was established at North Shore Community College in 2002, and is a partnership with Lynn Public Schools. The program works to identify and assist individuals who would be the first in their family to graduate college to succeed in higher education. The program aims to increase the number of Lynn youth whose family's income is below the federal poverty threshold who complete high school and enroll in and complete postsecondary education.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Talent Search Senior Special Program Coordinator directs special projects and activities and implements the Talent Search (TS) program services at assigned high schools. They engage in outreach and recruitment of students in the program's target population, provide advising and services to program participants, facilitates school and community-based workshops, and oversees and implements all operational components of the services and activities of the program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for high school administrators and staff; represents the program at school events and meetings.
- Coordinates outreach efforts and collaborates on the recruitment and selection of project participants in concert with school administration and staff.
- Maintains statistical data, coordinates regular evaluation of data in an effort to facilitate work designed to meet program goals and objectives, and ensure the required number of students served annually are enrolled and serviced appropriately.
- Develop, schedule, deliver and evaluate presentations, workshops, and other activities on preparing for postsecondary education.
- Research trends and secure impactful inventories and other resources to help students assess their interests, strengths, needs, and career options, guiding students through developing a roadmap for postsecondary education.
- In large and small groups and one-on-one sessions:
- Provide advisement/counseling regarding secondary school course selection, preparing for college entrance exams, college selection, resources for locating public and private scholarships, and federal student financial aid programs; create student educational plans, track student participation data and maintain student records;
- Provide assistance in completing college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship applications; support student's in developing the skill of how to advocate on behalf of themselves with agencies and schools regarding financial aid and admissions;
- Oversee collaborations with community partners, external stakeholders and caring adults in order to make connections for participants to education or counseling services for social emotional / mental health needs, access to public assistance and basic needs resources and/or programs designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of the participants and their parents;
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise college visits. Oversee risk management protocols and safety measures to ensure a safe and engaging experience for participants;
- Coordinate and oversee the provision of the TS tutoring services. Plan, prioritize, assign, and review, the work of the TS Tutors. Collect and analyze data to be used to evaluate tutoring services.
- Document assistance and services provided using Blumen database; maintain confidential records; run reports to track students' progress and program outcomes towards meeting grant objectives.
- Participate in meetings and professional development activities. Maintains a working knowledge of federal law and TRIO regulations; researches new technologies, products, trends, and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned and as dictated by participant, school district or community partner need.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director, Talent Search Program
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Marketing, Education Administration, or other field related to area of assignment; with three (3) years' experience and/or training involving area of assignment.
- Program/project management, community relations, education, counseling, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience in high school settings, working with teens, or with higher education admissions, enrollment, or financial aid
- Experience helping students assess their interests, strengths, and needs and developing goals and plans for postsecondary education; experience with the target population preferred
- Counseling experience and strong interpersonal skills. Requires the ability to inform and guide others by applying principles of professional counseling in addressing specific situations.
- Experience developing and delivering workshops and presentations
- Experience developing and coordinating activities for small and large groups
- Strong computing skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required; database/student records experience preferred; experience using social and mobile applications to promote services/engage constituents preferred
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to issues significant to TRIO populations
- Professional or personal experience having succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population; experience with TRIO programs a plus
- Bilingual preferred
- Ability to work occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends. Must be able to travel between high schools and campus locations.
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
Additional Information:
SALARY RANGE: Anticipated starting salary is $59,244.00 - $64,111.00 for 37.5 hours/52 weeks per year. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement.
