Position Summary
The Horizons Program is a regional perinatal substance use disorder treatment program of the Department of OB/GYN at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This program provides comprehensive, gender specific outpatient and residential treatment for pregnant women and mothers and their children. This position is located within the outpatient program. As UNC Horizons serves on average 70 infants and children per year, the Psychology Associate will clinically assess and treat all children entering our residential program. Assessments may include developmental evaluations, trauma screening, and cognitive testing. Many of the infants and children entering our program have histories of adverse experiences and have developmental delays; thus, this position requires advanced clinical family therapy and intervention skills. Intervention skills include diagnosing of various infant and child mental health conditions, treatment with evidence based inventions, such as child parent psychotherapy, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and parent-child interaction therapy.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master’s degree in Psychology. Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina under provisions specified by the Psychology Practice Act. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Must have either a LP (Licensed Psychologist) or LPA (Licensed Psychological Associate) professional licensure.
  • Must have clinical experience working with infants and young children.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Prefer someone with experience in a women’s substance use disorder treatment program and who has worked in a trauma informed environment.
  • Prefer experience working with women that are pregnant or parenting and using substances.
  • Prefer trainings in evidence-based inventions for children, such as TFCBT, PCIT, Circle of Security parenting, etc.
  • Prefer Infant Mental Health experience
  • Prefer interest in supervising psychology interns.

Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Must have either a LP (Licensed Psychologist) or LPA (Licensed Psychological Associate) professional licensure.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to ascend/descend stairs, with or without accommodation.
