Police Officer Job at Village of Butler
The Village of Butler is located in eastern Waukesha County, bordering Brookfield, Menomonee Falls, Wauwatosa and Milwaukee. The department is highly supported by the community, the Village board and administration, as illustrated by the passing of a referendum by over 72% to permanently add an additional officer in 2023. The department offers an outstanding 10-hour shift (4 on – 2 off / 4 on – 4 off) schedule which allows for a healthy work/life balance. Set off days, along with having 4 days off EVERY OTHER WEEKEND are just some of the highlights! The department also provides a desirable health insurance plan with zero deductibles in-network. We are a very cohesive team, always working together to solve crimes and better our community. Input is valued and expected from everyone. Training and professional development is a priority and encouraged, striving to constantly improve as an officer and a person. Potential opportunity for membership on the County SWAT, Civil Disturbance Unit and a multi-jurisdictional investigative unit.
Responsibilities:
Butler Police Department officers are expected to enforce the laws of the State of Wisconsin and local ordinances with respect and dignity. The Village of Butler is community focused with a small-town atmosphere, allowing officers to make positive generational impacts on families, while providing the high level of safety and security our citizens’ desire. Officers will become highly trained in many aspects of law enforcement as you will be responsible for a wide variety of calls for service along with self-initiated activity. Our officers are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner, both on the job and off. We are looking for officers with high moral character, high energy, and a positive, team focused attitude.
Lateral transfer program:
Full-time Officers currently certified with the State of Wisconsin or another state within the past 2 years will qualify for lateral transfers. Officers meeting these criteria, will enter the BPD wage scale (5 steps over 4 years) congruent with their overall years of service. Officers will also earn vacation at their actual full-time years of service rate according to the current CBA. Officers will also be able to use pro-rated vacation time immediately after successful completion of field training. Laterals may also start with up to 40 hours a sick time.
