The City of La Vista is accepting applications for a full-time Police Data Entry Clerk at the La Vista Police Department. This position is responsible for entering information and records into a computer system. Must have excellent communication skills, basic computer proficiency (including MS Office, Word, and Excel), and cash handling experience. Applicants need to have a high school diploma or GED. Understanding of and prior work with law enforcement operations is preferred.
The wage range for this position is $16.62 to $23.28 per hour. Starting wage dependent upon experience and qualifications.

Description:
Under the direction of the Police Records Manager-Office Manager, performs a variety of record and data processing functions.
Essential Functions: (with or without reasonable accommodation)
- Enters information, police records, correspondence and other documents into the computer system.
- Professionally answers and routes telephone calls.
- Monitors front lobby, addresses questions, greets and refers visitors as needed.
- Performs extensive hard copy and computer filing of documents.
- Performs computations and basic statistical analysis daily, monthly and quarterly as needed/requested.
- Monitors police reports for errors and deficiencies.
- Types dictated reports.
- Releases photocopies of police reports as appropriate and collects fees.
- Maintains computer equipment and data files.
- Monitors and maintains department video security system.
- Performs other duties as directed or as the situation dictates.

Work is performed mostly in office settings. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally asked to stand and sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess correctable hearing to normal conversational level.
Education, Training, License, Certification and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
- Prefer knowledge of and/or experience with law enforcement operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of standard office policies and procedures.
- Basic alphabetization and filing skills.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability, at time of hire, to operate Microsoft Windows and Office systems, including Word and Excel with a high degree of competency and efficiency.
- Knowledge of microcomputer systems, network operating systems and the use of application programs.
- Ability to type 45 words per minute.
- Ability to input 45k (bits) or 100 records per day.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and to follow directions.
- Ability to read and write proficiently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to operate office equipment such as a photocopier, fax machine, printers, scanners, etc.
- Ability to operate dictation equipment and type dictated reports.
- Ability to learn and understand the flow of information into a contemporary law enforcement records management system.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with City officials, fellow employees, patrons, children and members of the public.
- Ability to consistently maintain regular and dependable attendance.
- Ability to work varying schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
