MAJOR PURPOSE:
Coordinate circulation services and general daily use of the Library in collaboration with librarians. Manage circulation, interlibrary loans, user fines and fees, and stack maintenance. Accountable for service quality and innovation. Responsible for providing leadership to student workers.
This position is 100% in person, on campus.
Pay range for this position is generally $40,000-$45,000. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
● Performs circulation desk procedures, such as checking materials in and out, registering patrons, answering telephones, answering reference questions, etc.
● Respond to student and faculty in-person and online requests for library materials, services, donations and information.
● Answer directional questions, assists patrons with ready reference questions, database searching and refer patrons to appropriate personnel when needed.
● Manage interlibrary loan and resource sharing services.
● Manage student workers, including recruitment, training, scheduling and/or supervisory duties.
● Actively seek out, create, advertise and participate in events and opportunities to communicate with on-campus and off-campus constituencies about the Library’s collection and services.
● Maintain and collect space and library utilization data
● Other duties as assigned by the Director.
● Evening and Weekend hours may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree with a certificate in Library Science or a Bachelor’s degree or
- 3 years’ experience working in a library as a library tech or higher can be substituted for education
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
● Customer service experience
● Preferred supervisory experience
● Knowledge of commonly used research techniques
● Expertise with Microsoft Office and Google Suites
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- User-centered customer service skills.
- Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- The ability to use technology effectively and to adapt to technological change.
- Technical aptitude working with multiple data systems.
- Must be able to multi-task and respond well to interruptions.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
