The Graduation Specialist reviews and certifies that undergraduate candidates have successfully completed all requirements for a degree prior to it being conferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Graduation Certification

Certifies the completion of all degree requirements for the assigned undergraduate graduation candidates; verifies all requirements have been met prior to graduation using Banner, MyMocsDegree, and other related software; and provides written notifications to all assigned graduation candidates, their advisors and academic department heads regarding graduation status.

Campus Interaction

Counsels students regarding the completion of their degree requirements, especially those who encounter problems that may prevent or delay their graduation; works with academic department heads and advisors who are having difficulty advising students and/or understanding complex requirements for a student; participates in Advisors Council to share and learn information from other departments regarding degree requirements; assists with miscellaneous activities concerning commencement exercises including helping at the ceremonies; and attends a Graduation Celebration event every fall and spring semester.

Maintaining Student Records

Changes graduation candidates' majors as well as apply all necessary petitions in the student's MyMocsDegree; ensures all finalized documents are attached to the student's electronic file; and assists with diploma mailing three times a year.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Knowledge of higher education policies and procedures as it relates to graduation requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills along with above average organizational, computer, and computational skills
  • Ability to work with details and capable of working independently
  • Be able to quickly assimilate and apply new information as well as problem solve
  • Ability to work as a team

Review of applicants will begin on December 12, 2022 and continue until the position is filled. Applications received by this date will receive priority consideration.

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma or GED and 2 years of office experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; office experience in higher education, specifically a student service area; and knowledge of Banner, specifically the STUDENT module.
