Position Summary:

The ESG & Sustainability Manager will manage key aspects of EG Group’s ESG & Sustainability agenda in our U.S. market. Reporting into the Office of the General Counsel (EG America, Westborough, Mass.) with a dotted line to the Group Head of ESG & Sustainability (EG Group, Blackburn, U.K.), this role will ensure EG Group delivers on its ESG strategy and commitments across our U.S. operating footprint (approximately 1,700 retail stores in 30 states, plus manufacturing, distribution, and business support functions).

Responsibilities:

1. Drive action to ensure the business delivers against ESG commitments – ranging from environmental targets on climate change and waste, to diversity and community targets

2. Manage sustainability projects, working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver activity across our offices and stores

3. Influence business units and colleagues to ensure ESG policies are implemented, and track improvements to business processes

4. Proactively engage with our supply chains and key partners on ESG, and carry out supply chain due diligence as and when needed

5. Horizon-scan for emerging ESG legislation and regulation affecting the business

6. Project manage the collation and delivery of key ESG & Sustainability datasets

7. Act as the key point of contact for sustainability enquiries and issues in the U.S. market

8. Partner with internal and external communications teams to create ESG & Sustainability content, across offices, stores and social media

9. Support the Group Head of ESG & Sustainability with information on sustainability performance as required.

Working Relationships:

Given the cross-functional nature of sustainability/ESG management in a corporate setting, this role may interact with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, which may include: (1) counterparts on the worldwide Sustainability/ESG team; (2) Operations, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Health/Safety, Manufacturing, Supply/Logistics, Construction, Facilities, and Environmental departments in the U.S. corporate office; (3) our major U.S. suppliers/vendors as needed.


Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field

Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in Related Field

Minimum Experience: 2 Years applicable experience within the ESG/Sustainability space

Preferred Experience: 3-4 years applicable experience; experience managing sustainability/ESG initiatives in a corporate setting; experience in the c-store, restaurant, grocery, energy, or consumer goods industries

Licenses/Certifications: Licenses/Certifications: None required, but any applicable professional certifications are plus (e.g., GRI, LEED, SASB, ISSP, ACCO)


Soft Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrable knowledge and enthusiasm working in sustainability or related fields (e.g., corporate responsibility, climate change, waste management, ESG reporting/auditing) is essential.

Travel -
Occasional overnight travel and extended work hours may be required as circumstances dictate

Hours & Conditions - Monday – Friday, hybrid role based out of EG America headquarters in Westborough, Mass., with an anticipated requirement of 2-3 days in office per week and the remainder worked remotely.

Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver and regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
