WEIGHTS AND MEASURES INSPECTOR *ZR Job at Town of Barnstable
Job Description:
Inspection and enforcement work in compliance with Massachusetts General Laws regarding weights and measures and regulations including quantity declarations, mandated device inspections, and pricing accuracy; using accepted National Conference of Weights and Measures and Office of Weights and Measures procedures and standards. Represents town in District Court in conjunction with weights and measures violations. Inspects premises for compliance with applicable laws and regulations; all other related work as required. This position is 100% funded from the Weights and Measures Inspection and Enforcement Receipts account. Elimination of this revolving account would result in the elimination of this position and the separation of the employee from employment with the Town.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in related field required. More than 3 years experience with a government weights and measures program or over 3 years with a commercial testing company preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Massachusetts Division of Standards Certificate of Qualification as a Weights and Measures Official obtained within one year of hire.
Massachusetts Division of Standards Certification for Basic Weights and Measures, Certification in Vehicle Tank Meters, and item price and unit price inspection or must be able to attain within a reasonable amount of time. Certification in Price Verification, net weight compliance, medium and large capacity scales, and measuring devices desired.
Education and training for Continuous Education Units
Possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Drivers License.
OSHA training desired.
Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge and familiarity with Massachusetts General Laws pertaining to weights and measures. Knowledge of National Conference on Weights and Measures and the Office of Weights and Measures regulations and publications dealing with weights & measures standards and inspections. Working knowledge of National Institute of Standards and Technology handbooks 44, 133, 130, and 19.
Ability to explain complicated testing procedures and results to device owners and consumers. Must possess the ability to deal in a professional and courteous manner with business operators/owners. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to make very fine precision measurements and perform algebraic and geometric calculations by hand and with equipment. Ability to create and maintain neat and accurate records and daily reports.
Proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheets and databases. Must be able to keep up with new technology relating to devices, test procedures and calibrations. Use of special test measures, octane tester, price bar code scanner verification unit; WINWAM laptop and 2 cubic yard mulch test measure.
