Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Director, Procurement, the Vendor Performance Specialist assists with developing both short and long-term roadmaps for supplier performance, supporting the day-to-day operations of the department, and working on ad hoc projects as required.

The Vendor Performance Specialist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee assigned workstreams to drive compliance to key performance indicators and ensure that all contractual commitments are met by our vendors.
  • Interpret and communicate contract requirements, obligations, and risk exposures to key stakeholders.
  • Perform regular performance monitoring and reviews.
  • Identify performance norms in the marketplace and ensure alignment with internal evaluation criteria.
  • Highlight any performance gaps and failures to meet previously agreed-upon expectations and develop effective mitigation plans.
  • Develop and manage a scorecard reporting process to provide accurate and timely feedback on vendor performance to each stakeholder group (including the vendor, user group, procurement, and law).
  • Drive engagement and establish communication channels with the vendor community to solicit feedback on process improvement measures.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual program evaluation reports to be presented to the Board, COO, Department Chiefs, and other stakeholders on key metrics on vendor performance as it relates to commitments versus actual delivery.
  • Provide training and assistance to CPS staff and other interested persons on program objectives and requirements.

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Vendor Performance Specialist must possess the following qualifications:

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Master’s degree preferred

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in procurement and/or operations is required, preferably in the private or government sectors
  • Previous public procurement and in vendor performance management is preferred
  • Previous program management experience, including project management, in a large, high-volume, fast-paced work environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Possess competency in vendor performance management protocols and understanding of key performance indicator tracking
  • General awareness of vendor management-related technology/systems
  • General understanding of procurement policies and procedures, including knowledge of the solicitation process
  • Proficiency in Oracle, B2Gnow Software, Excel, and Access preferred
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Strong time management, project management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Be detail-oriented and inquisitive

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.

CPS Non-Union Job Grade: S07

Estimated Annual Salary Range: $66,000-$87,500

Final salary offers are dependent upon candidate qualifications.
