Utility Systems Mechanic
Phosphorus Free Water Solutions is looking for an experienced Utility Systems Mechanic to service and maintain water and wastewater treatment and utility equipment.
This role performs lead level technical work in water and wastewater treatment and utility equipment maintenance. Position is responsible for performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair duties for treatment plants and related utilities structures. Work is performed under general supervision with moderate latitude. Position relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The list of essential functions is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Other tasks may be assigned as required.
· Performs skilled troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of various pump mechanical systems and systems processing equipment, e.g., bearings, seals, bushings, impellers, valves, gear systems.
· Performs diagnostics and electrical troubleshooting tasks in isolating and resolving electronic and electrical control issues.
· Operates various medium to heavy tools and equipment in performing maintenance and repair tasks, e.g., welders, generators, air compressor, drill presses, band saws, jet machines.
· Performs fabrication tasks as needed, e.g., welding, drilling, grinding, polishing, fitting, painting, cutting.
· Performs inspection and testing tasks as part of a regular preventive maintenance program and to ensure safe and proper operating conditions.
· Assists in the locating and coordination of materials and purchase requisitions for replacement equipment, items, and parts.
· Establish and maintain the spare parts and accessory inventory to facilitate normal, planned preventive maintenance tasks
· Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
· Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
· Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with residents, coworkers, supervisors, administration and vendors;
· Ability to effectively, promptly, and accurately communicate during emergency situations or to avoid hazards.
· Performs related duties as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Four (4) years of professional journeyman level experience in mechanical troubleshooting, moderate electrical system repair and general maintenance.
· An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
· Experience in water/wastewater treatment plants and working with programmable logic controllers preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Requires periodic lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of very heavy objects (up to 80 pounds).
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids.
