SUMMARY


Coordinates and leads overall administration of a nursing unit, including quality care, supervision of nursing personnel, Has 24-hour responsibility for overall management of the assigned unit.


DELEGATION OF AUHORITY


Under the Supervision of the Director of Nursing, As a Unit Manager, you are delegated the responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying our your assigned duties.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS


  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set forth in policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws and applicable professional standards.

  • Ensures that employees receive compliance training and education necessary to perform their job responsibilities.

  • Promotes adherence to policies and procedures by monitoring employee performance and identifying and responding to identified compliance issues.

  • Adheres to and promotes Equal Employment Opportunity and the facility’s Affirmative Action Plan.

  • Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team.

  • Keeps confidential all patient information received.

  • Participates /coordinates committees and meetings related to patient care issues for the unit.

  • Participates in patient care plan meetings and conferences as necessary, and is responsible for the formation of patient care plans and updates to reflect the current status of the patient

  • Actively participates in wound care rounds and committees.

  • Passes medications, gives injections and completes treatments as needed.

  • Makes rounds with physicians; transcribes and implements orders and assures that physician phone orders and signed promptly.

  • Participates in Medicare A meetings.

  • Monitors patient’s conditions via 24-hour report, observation, documentation and communication with staff, patients and families.

  • Alerts DNS/Administrator to pertinent issues.

  • Implements and educates staff on new policies and chemical practice methods.

  • Tracks patient census, population and care-related issues on unit.

  • Interprets physician orders to patient and provides instructions to patients when appropriate.

  • Provides supervision, direction and evaluation of nursing staff on unit.

  • Orients new admissions and personnel to unit.

  • Makes patient care and environmental rounds regularly throughout the day.

  • Oversight of nursing unit which includes planning daily and/or weekly work assignments. Breaks; ensures adequate staffing and delegates routine duties.

  • Maintains standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the nursing department. Follows all local, state and federal rules and regulations.

  • Supervises, directs and evaluates nursing staff on unit.

  • Completes and performs nursing functions within the scope of practice as defined by state nursing practice act.

  • Maintains documentation as required by law and state nursing practice act.

  • Assists unit personnel in interpreting and planning assignments.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with sensitivity towards other staff members, referral sources, patients and their families and physicians.

  • Communicates with the Pharmacy and Lab on pertinent issues.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Pharmacy / Dietary Recommendation – ensure that recs. are followed timely

QUALIFICTIONS

  • CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of gerontological nursing and principles of nursing supervision.
  • Current state registration to practice.
  • Good interpersonal skills for patient and staff interactions.
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively through verbal and written means.
  • Ability to work under stress and in emergency situations.
  • Understands principles of growth and development for the entire lifespan with the ability to provide care appropriate for adult and geriatric patients as appropriate to the patient population.
  • Nursing License required RN/LPN
