Performs clinical laboratory analysis requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with moderate supervision by the Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor or General Supervisor which the technologist is qualified by education, training or experience.

Work requires the application of theories and principles of a highly technological or professional field to the full range of problems and issues characteristic of the field. Work requires judgment, analytic ability and creativity in investigating moderate or high complexity problems or situations, analyzing information and recommending solutions.

Documentation of training appropriate to testing performed. Training must assure skills for:

specimen collection, labeling, preparation, etc.

implementing laboratory procedures

performing assigned tests

conducting preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration

knowledge of reagent stability and storage

implementing quality control (QC) procedures

knowledge of factors influencing test results

validating patient test results with QC before reporting.

High Complexity

MD or DO with a current medical license¹; OR

Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science; OR

Master's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science; OR

Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical or biological; OR

Laboratory training/experience consisting of the following:

Successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and

Appropriate training/experience as specified in 42CFR493.1423

Moderate Complexity

MD or DO with a current medical license¹; OR

Doctoral degree in chemical, physical or biological science; OR

Master's degree in, chemical, physical, or biological science; OR

Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical or biological science; OR

Laboratory training/experience consisting of the following:

Successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist; OR

Appropriate training/experience as specified in 42CFR493.1423
