Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a director for its new Arts Living-Learning Community (“Arts Living”), which seeks to fully integrate the arts into the MSU undergraduate experience by creating a non-curricular, living-learning community focusing on socially engaged arts. The director will work directly with students in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH) and College of Arts and Letters (CAL). In addition, the director will organize, plan, or lead workshops, co-curricular programming, and facilitate access to the University’s extensive arts exhibitions and performances. They will facilitate interactions for students with visiting artists and practicing professionals across an array of disciplines. The Arts Living-Learning Community does not include coursework, but the director will work to expand the undergraduate experience through a residential community. The Arts Living-Learning Community will serve as the heart of the arts at MSU over the coming years, and the director will help shape this. Arts Living is based in Snyder-Phillips Hall, and this position is entirely in-person.
Administration – 50%
Work with constituent units (African American and African Studies; Art, Art History, and Design; Creative Writing; Film Studies; Theatre; and RCAH), as well as the larger arts community at MSU, to develop and maintain strong arts programming for MSU students;
Coordinate and administer arts programming at campus facilities, such as LookOut Gallery, and off campus;
Establish and maintain a system of peer mentors;
Liaise with Community Director and RAs (Resident Assistants) in Snyder-Phillips and with RCAH Graduate Fellows;
Oversee budget to sustain and grow the Arts Living-Learning Community;
Develop and implement an annual and ongoing programmatic and student learning assessment program.
Student Facing – 40%
Provide guidance on support services for Arts Living-Learning Community students;
Advise, where appropriate, Arts Living-Learning Community students;
Mentor Arts Living-Learning Community students;
Coordinate with relevant RCAH and CAL colleagues for additional advising, coaching, and wellness support.
Recruitment – 10%
Meet with potential students and others to promote the Arts Living-Learning Community;
Coordinate advertisement of/communication about Learning Community to external audiences, e.g., maintain website, monitor shared email.
Specifics:
The Director of MSU’s new Arts Living-Learning Community will have an office in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities and report to both the Dean of the Residential College and the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters.
RCAH will supply an office, CAL will supply a computer.

MA in the arts, community engagement, higher education, or adjacent fields; relevant experience working with college-aged students;
Demonstrated experience in arts-related environments.
Desired Qualifications
MFA or PhD in the arts, community engagement, higher education or adjacent fields with relevant experience working with student support, including familiarity with literature on 1st and 2nd year experience;
Demonstrated experience with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB), Well-being, and Social Justice;
Demonstrated experience with community engagement or outreach.
