Job Duties

Western State Hospital (WSH) is recruiting for a Public Safety Officer who will maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and the public at the hospital and The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA). This is accomplished through the provision of support to the clinical staff in the units and treatment milieu management. This position requires availability to be able to work all shifts including weekends and holidays.

Shift Differentials are as follows:

- 2nd shift weekday $2.50 3-11
- 3rd shift weekday $2.25 11-7
- 1st shift weekend $3.00 7-3
- 2nd shift weekend $3.00 3-11
- 3rd shift weekend $3.00 11-7

Hiring Range: $29,772 - $82,340

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant must have previous experience in law enforcement, security, or a related field. Basic computer skills are required. A valid Virginia Driver’s License is required along with a excellent driving record. Applicants must have the ability to complete SCOP (Special Conservator of the Peace) training and obtain certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer candidates with experience working in a mental health environment. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, and/or in an emotionally charged situation is preferred. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse demographic population will be ideal. Bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred.
