Job Description
7 hours per day, 9 months per year
This position is funded by a federal grant (GEAR UP) and is subject to annual renewal by August 31 throughout the duration of the grant award period (2017-2023).

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work or a related field, or
A minimum of two (2) years of college level studies plus two (2) years of directly related experience working with low-income youth in an educational environment may be substituted for education requirement experience
Strong math competency preferred
Proven ability to provide direct service with students and families living in poverty
Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
Ability to collaborate with educators and supportive community members/organizations to provide enriching opportunities for struggling students
Ability to sustain poise and confidence in managing emotional and difficult situations
Ability to successfully provide case management in a collaborative team atmosphere
Ability to work with students with varying educational, social and economic backgrounds
Ability to manage reporting and documenting requirements, including gathering and entering data
Ability to support the work of GEAR UP Site Directors and school staff to help students succeed academically
Willingness to attend field trips and possibly chaperone student camps and activities
Ability to assist students in meeting academic goals
Knowledge of local resources for low-income families
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience using Microsoft programs including Word and Excel
Adept at utilizing technology to create reports to maintain, track and analyze student data from the Skyward Student Information System
Self-motivated, with good organizational skills and attention to detail

Assist students in successful completion of college eligibility requirements
Take an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of GEAR UP students
Provide academic support for students in class and/or during extended day programs
Encourage students to enroll in post-secondary education after high school
Model attributes and behaviors of successful college going students
Once student is located, provide educational options to student and family
Establish strong relationships with participants and site personnel utilizing a relationship model
Establish effective and supportive relationships with GEAR UP team, school administrators and building staff
Communicates regularly and effectively with students and families from socioeconomically disadvantaged and diverse ethnic and language backgrounds
Maintain updated student records and files. Ensure confidentially of all records and files
Keep daily log of student contact and enter all activity in the GEAR UP WA State database
Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts may receive experience credit towards salary placement.
