Peer Review Coordinator - Medical Staff

The Medical Staff Quality Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating Medical Staff Peer Review committees and activities across defined departments. This role works closely with Medical Staff leadership on providing accurate clinical summaries, data trending, reports and analysis. This role reports to the Medical Staff Office Manager. Requirements:

  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred
  • 3-5 years in an Acute care environment in Performance Improvement, preferred
  • Data Management proficiency and graphical display skills preferred
  • Current Delaware RN Licensure

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies cases meeting the criteria for clinical case review through pulling reports from various data systems.
  • Performs preliminary (RN level) review of retrospective Morbidity and Mortality review using indicators and screening criteria developed and approved by the Medical Staff.
  • Coordinates and communicates with physicians and/or their offices in regard to screening, scoring and assist with their presentation of select cases for peer review.
  • Attends the medical staff peer review meetings and creates the record of the peer review discussion and outcomes. Coordinates follow-up planning processes/activities.
  • Provides data abstraction, analysis and reporting of trends relating to defined departmental outcomes.
  • Maintains knowledge of Evidence-based, CMS and TJC clinical metrics (i.e. Core Measures, AHRQ Patient Safety Indicators, Hospital Acquired Conditions)
  • Performs data entry of peer review findings into a Medical Staff Database to facilitate physician-specific reports for Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE).
  • Creates charts and graphs to facilitate the communication of data and trends
  • Maintains data tracking system.
  • Facilitates timely and accurate triage of Medical Staff related Risk Events Notices
  • Assist the Medical Staff when New equipment or procedures are sought after in following the policies outlined.
  • Attend monthly meetings on purchasing of new equipment to help determine if privileges will need to be changed or developed
  • To Educate the medical staff departments on mandatory quality initiatives, and hospital based quality initiatives to improve the OPPE process.
  • Maintain scorecards that can be presented to the Credential's, MEC and Board of Directors about the quality of any physician seeking re-appointmen

Credentials - Essential:

  • RN - Registered Nurse

  • Has Skills To Provides Customer Service To Patients, Team Members And Visitors
  • Knowledge And Experience With Electronic Health Records

Education - Essential:

  • RN Diploma/RN Graduate Program
