Wake County's Health and Human Services - Health Clinic offer health care for children and adults, ranging from treatment to education. Wake County's main public health clinics are in the Public Health Center in Raleigh. Some services provided at the Public Health Center are also provided at the Regional Centers through out Wake County. We are currently seeking a Medical Technologist to join our Health Clinics team in one of our several Clinics. Health Clinics include Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), HIV, Child Health, Family Planning, Prenatal, Immunization and Tuberculosis (TB). This position could be located in one of our several fast-paced public health clinics and works with a diverse patient population.

The Medical Technologist is part of the Laboratory team and is responsible for obtaining venous and/or capillary blood specimens.

Additionally, this role will perform the following:

  • Perform, record, and report CLIA designated waived, moderately complex and highly complex medical laboratory testing and other related work as required
  • Process samples obtained for pick-up or dispatch to other internal laboratory areas or to outside referral laboratories on patients who present themselves to the various clinical areas (at the main Sunnybrook facility and at the outlying Regional Centers) of the Wake County Department of Health & Human Services and on whom the providers in these clinical areas have given a written request for such procedures to be performed.

The Medical Technologist should have ability to:

  • Perform proper patient identification procedures
  • Collect and handle blood specimens
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures, including quality control
  • Accurately enter results -Set up, operate laboratory and perform equipment maintenance in preparation for specimen testing or processing

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Technology or related field
  • One year of experience in medical technology or graduation from an accredited medical technology program
  • Possess or eligible to obtain certification in Medical Technology within one year of employment (ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification)
  • Equivalent education or experience is accepted

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science or allied health technologies
  • Possesses an MLT or MT Certification (or eligible within one year of hire)
  • At least 3 years of experience in a medical laboratory setting
  • Demonstrable familiarity with complex medical equipment
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and irregular hours

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
