Medical Coding Instructor/Externship/Placement Coordinator
Midwest Technical Institute is offering a $1000.00 bonus to the candidate who completes his/her 90-day probationary period.
Midwest Technical Institute, an established career college with campuses throughout the Midwest and Mississippi Delta region, is seeking a part time Medical Coding Instructor/Externship/Placement Coordinator for our Peoria, IL campus.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to train students for entry level employment in the workforce. The Medical Coding Instructor will teach students in a classroom and clinical lab setting. Midwest Technical Institute believes that hands-on learning is the greatest benefit that instructors can provide to its students.
Instructor Duties:
· Teaching classes in both a classroom and clinical lab environment
· Assisting with placing students at extern sites during their final term at school
· Maintaining a good working relationship with extern sites
· Assisting graduates with placement in their related career field
· Staying up to date with industry standards
Externship/Placement Duties:
· Coordinate with instructors to place students in desirable and appropriate externship sites at least three weeks prior to the end of module three.
· Communicate with current externship site supervisors to maintain ongoing participation in the externship program.
· Obtain new externship sites, with signed agreements, floor plans, and documentation of qualifications of externship “on-site” supervisors.
· Once student of placed, make visits to each student at least once during the nine week period to ensure student is complying with program requirements, and to maintain open communication between MTI, the student, and the site.
· Supervise a class session at MTI at least every two weeks to meet with students to collect required work and assess student progress at externship site.
· Monitor time sheets, journals, and assigned projects during externship period.
· Assist students with resumes, cover letters, and interview techniques.
· Assist students with job search and placement.
· Maintain placement rate of at least 85% for all classes.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the medical coding field
· Knowledge of ICD-10 regulations is essential
· Teaching experience preferred
· Strong Communication and organizational skills are a must
· Computer proficiency in industry related software
· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
· Ability to multi-task
