Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. The Medical Assistant provides non-licensed medical support to medical care providers as a medical assistant for the department/clinical team for which it is assigned. The Medical Assistant is supervised by a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) when administering medications and performing or assisting with procedures. The Medical Assistant works under the direction of a clinic manager (practice manager and/or nurse manager) for administrative purposes, including customer service, professional behavior & development, assignment & scheduling of work, and performance of job functions not requiring supervision by a LIP.
Required Qualifications
- Must have Certificate of Completion from a medical assistant training program.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification.
- To administer injections, must have written evidence of validation for training and competency in medication administration by injection and skin testing.
- Must pass UCDH Pharmacology verification exams if needed in job.
- Basic knowledge of health care insurance systems as related to required job functions for this position, such as coordinating patient care, including but not limited to, ordering diagnostic and ancillary services, coordinate patient prescriptions, authorizations or referrals, coordinate hospital services, appointing patients, coordinate orders for medical supplies/equipment or as needed for billing documentation.

- This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
