Position Summary
UIW is seeking a full-time (9-month) Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor to teach in the undergraduate and/or graduate nursing program. This position requires the flexibility to teach in a variety of nursing courses, including but not limited to fundamental and medical-surgical areas of nursing, across the lifespan, and in the four spheres of care. Responsibilities may include didactic and clinical teaching, as well as student advising. Rank is dependent on education and experience.
In all matters, faculty members are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities as assigned.
This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you, as the employee, to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions
- Teaching in area(s) of expertise within graduate and/or undergraduate programs, outreach and community service, and active involvement in school and university, committees, service, and governance.
- Developing and maintaining program of scholarship based on the Boyer Model.
- Teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate or graduate level may include: classroom, lab, and clinical teaching.
- Comply with UIW Faculty Handbook processes and policies.
- Evaluating student performance, advising students, and working with faculty teams to design and evaluate curriculum to meet accreditation standards and guidelines.
- Maintain all clinical clearance requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of professional nursing education standards for BSN, MSN and/or DNP programs.
- Comprehensive nursing knowledge and competency.
- Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
- Effective instructional delivery.
- Well-developed education and/or health care team communication.
- Ability to actively engage students in the learning process.
- Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Master’s Degree in Nursing.
Required Work Experience
- Three (3) years clinical practice as a registered nurse.
- Successful nursing teaching experience or knowledge relevant to higher education, scholarship appropriate for rank at the undergraduate and/or graduate faculty levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in nursing, or closely related discipline.
- Teaching experience at the baccalaureate level.
- Primary care or other community-based nursing practice experience.
- Experience in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation at the undergraduate level or with concept-based curriculum and/or distance education methodologies.
- Fluent in Spanish.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Unencumbered license as RN in Texas.
