How will you make an impact?
The Operations Engineer is member of the Operations Engineering team at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Hillsboro, Oregon. Our factory produces low-volume, high complexity electron microscopy products for semiconductor designers and manufacturers to use in the creation and improvement of their products and manufacturing processes. The team is responsible for smooth introduction of new electron microscopy products into the factory and field as well as the ongoing improvement of products and the processes used to manufacture and service them.
What will you do?
- Work on New Product Introduction (NPI) projects as they transition from initiation through release according to Product Management Process (PMP).
- Create manufacturing process for new products and preventative maintenance plan for product support in the field. May design tooling required for manufacturing and service to meet cycle time and tool availability requirements.
- Create and delivers initial training to Manufacturing, Technical Support and Service personnel in new product build, test, install and repair procedures. Also, gives input for ongoing training for factory and field service engineers.
- Complete electrical component obsolescence projects on products throughout the product life cycle.
- Support critical issues on the production floor to ensure on time shipments. Determine root cause and corrective measures to prevent further occurrence.
- Using available data, identify areas requiring sustaining projects for design and process improvements.
- Work on projects to improve cycle time and tool availability requirements.
- Assist logistics and document management with Technical Product Documentation (TPD) and specification support.
- Respond and support safety issues reported on the manufacturing floor and/or field service.
- Critical issue interface for Global Technical Support team as required.
- Spend a portion of your day working in a clean room environment.
How will you get here?
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required, or a combination of technical education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
Experience
- Experience crafting documentation, procedures, and engineering reports.
- Experience in analysis of data and basic experimental methods, test protocols, and procedures.
- Proven experience participating in technical multi-functional projects.
- Experience developing and deploying new products into a manufacturing environment.
- 1+ years’ experience as an Operations Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer or similar field highly desirable.
- Experience with Practical Process Improvements (PPI) including cost reduction by workflow or design improvements.
- Experience in reviewing data and driving improvements that affect quality.
- Experience in Failure Analysis and system level troubleshooting.

The salary range estimated for this position is $61,000 - $82,500. This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
