What you need:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• ServSafe Certified.

What you do:

• Responsible for implementing the nutritional guidelines as set forth by the USDA to ensure meals are prepared per the program standards for approved food items (nutrient value), and that any required substitution meets these requirements.
• Prepares and serves food items in correct portions and variety, in accordance with Center standards and with state/program requirements for quantity, portioning and content. Plans/organizes food production to ensure that food is prepared and served in a timely and palatable manner, and is served at appropriate temperatures.
• Practices sanitary food handling techniques during food preparation, storage, and delivery to classrooms, to prevent contamination of foods. Washes hands prior to handling food. Wears a hair net or other approved head covering during food preparation and delivery.
• Maintains documentation, including meal records, meal counts, weekly production sheets, weekly menus, and revision/substitution list to demonstrate compliance with program standards and Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations.
• Exercises safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, when preparing and delivering food (e.g., wears gloves, uses cut-resistant gloves when cutting, wears slip-resistant shoes). Employs proper body mechanics when lifting and carrying loads.
• Manages food expenses in relation to the Center’s budget.
• Cleans the kitchen and maintains sanitary conditions in accordance with PA Department of Health standards. Disposes of waste items appropriately.
• Maintains inventory control and rotates stock as appropriate.
