Building Engineer Job at Ironside Newark
We are currently seeking a motivated, reliable, and seasoned Engineer to join our innovative and rapidly growing service company as a Building Engineer in our new, state-of-the-art building known as Ironside Newark.
As a member of our team, the ideal candidate must possess strong leadership skills. He/she must also be able to multi-task, manage time efficiently, and always maintain a high level of respect and professionalism through communications with employees, customers, and clients.
Knowledge & Strengths
Strong understanding of commercial office buildings and infrastructure such as Chilled Water Plants, Mitsubishi VRF, electrical, low voltage, and plumbing risers.
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment
Excellent ability to reiterate technical information to team members and Chief Engineer.
Proficient knowledge of fire protection systems, emergency egress and evacuation plans
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and CMMS work order systems.
Solid comprehension of spec sheets, technical instructions, control schematics and blueprints.
Basic knowledge of doors, windows, locks, hardware, and access control systems.
Strong hands-on experience using PPE, hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, paints, lubricants, chemicals, and hazardous materials
Key Elements
Perform and monitor maintenance and repairs to the Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Fire Life Safety, Architectural, Furniture and Control Systems for the facility
Maintains responsibility for facility services, preventive maintenance, inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency.
Maintenance of the equipment will include, inspecting, cleaning, calibrating, and replacing parts to maintain the HVAC systems and all other infrastructure at optimum performance.
Perform rounds and record readings and adjust equipment parameters were necessary to ensure proper operation of the equipment.
Manage vendors by monitoring maintenance, repairs, quality control and safety practices while work is being performed onsite.
Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace for all employees.
Communicate overall condition of engineering systems to Chief Engineer on a regular basis.
Assist with recycling and waste management programs.
Assist with project management, tenant fit outs and overall daily improvements of the facility.
Experience, Education & Licenses
Two years’ experience at a journeyman level, maintaining, repairing, and operating HVAC equipment.
Certification as a Universal Technician for CFC’s
High school diploma or GED equivalent, with two years of trade school in electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, or HVAC.
Building Engines, PlantLog, and Tridium Niagara building management software a plus
Essential Tasks
Paint walls, floors, ceilings, columns, door, and hardware on both the interior and exterior of the building.
Manage fire alarm panel, smoke devices, elevator recall, fire dampers, staircase pressurization fans, sprinkler & standpipe drain downs, fire extinguishers and all other fire protection equipment.
Perform UPS & ATS transfers, generator testing, and electrical shutdowns.
Adhere to all quality and safety codes.
Repair and replace pavers, polymetric sand, power washing and miner landscaping
Replace filters, belts, bearings, motors, and electrical circuits
Take inventory for supplies, tools, materials, parts, and attic stock.

Provide supervision of vendors and contractors.
Repair and install locksets, Mags, door closures, electric strikes, door stops, and all other required hardware.
Work with custodial staff to manage and perform snow removal, landscaping, and cleaning work efforts.
Move furniture, pallets, mail, and other items throughout the building as needed.
Keep daily log of duties, actions, escalations, incidents, and equipment operation.
Minimum Requirements
Must be a true team player with a can-do attitude.

Strong communication skills with a great mechanical aptitude
Ability to be polite, courteous, and helpful always with professionalism at the highest standard.
Perform thorough inspections and follow all building system operating procedures.
Uniforms must be worn, clean, ironed, and always tucked in.
Word hard, smart, and efficiently and perform tasks independently with minimal supervision.
Working hours include days, nights, and weekends to cover vacations, sick time, and special projects.
Able to commit to overtime and on call duties during bad weather, black outs, managers absence, and other emergencies.
To pursue, develop and participate in continuing education and system training courses.
