BILINGUAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (ENGLISH/SPANISH) Job at Arlington County, VA
Arlington County is seeking an experienced Bilingual Administrative Assistant (English/Spanish) to support the staff of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Services Unit. This position provides services to an ethnically diverse population, some of whom may have limited English speaking skills.
Specific duties include:
Receiving and directing calls to the appropriate staff or County agency as part of front-desk coverage;- Processing the daily court arrival list;
- Greeting clients, their parents, and other professionals via phone, email and in-person;
- Directing clients for intake services, providing forms, and explaining applicable fees;
- Providing administrative support to the Intake Unit and other CSU staff;
- Collecting and entering data related to Intake and other CSU operations and verifying accuracy of data entered by others;
- Handling daily administrative functions including typing, filing, managing files, sorting and delivering mail, data entry, processing court dockets and add-ons; and
- Maintaining office supplies, placing service calls for copier machine, and completing other assigned special projects.
Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent, plus some experience providing administrative support experience.
Bilingual: Proficient in speaking and understanding Spanish.
Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university can be substituted for the experience requirement on the following basis: two (2) years = six (6) months of experience.
Desirable: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Working in the court system;
- Creating forms in Microsoft Word and Excel; and
- Providing customer service to a diverse population.
An assessment of oral Spanish proficiency will be required before a candidate can be appointed to this bilingual position. The incumbent in the position will receive the language pay premium on all hours worked and on paid leave hours.

Employee must complete a criminal background check and a Virginia Central Registry background check through the County's Human Resources Department.
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
