We have a current opportunity for a
Associate Principal Structural Engineer to join our team in
Goleta, CA. We are looking for exceptional candidates with a minimum of 8 years of experience in
Structural Analysis with an emphasis in
loads and dynamics.
Responsibilities
- Build and correlate dynamic Finite Element Models of deployable systems using Ansys or Femap/Nastran FEA software
- Modeling and analysis of composite and metallic structures, including sandwich panels
- Support all phases of component and sub-component structural static and dynamic testing, including test planning, test procedures, on-site test execution, post-test data processing and analysis, and test reports
- Incorporate and correlate analysis & test results for structural performance verification
- Perform piece part stress analysis, including bolted joints, and document in stress reports to support drawing release
- Review designs/drawings and feedback analysis results to the Design Team and apply engineering principles to ensure that designed components and systems meet all requirements
- Create presentations & reports to support customer meetings and design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.)
- Interface directly with customers
- Ability to travel an average of 10% may be required to support offsite testing
Ideal Experience
- B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other space-related engineering discipline with 12+ years of experience or Masters degree with 10+ years of experience.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in space industry, analyzing and testing space flight hardware.
- Creating system level dynamic FEA models based on CAD geometry making assumptions and simplifications to adequately represent the structure
- Experience with NASTRAN or ANSYS
- Experience using SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
Desired Skills
- Non-linear and transient FEA analysis
- Experience modeling solar arrays and other deployable space structures
- Experience with Thermal Desktop a plus
- Experience with PDM Pro, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, Thermal Desktop, NASTRAN or ANSYS is a plus.
- Experience working with NASA and other Aerospace guidelines and specifications, for example: GSFC-STD-7000 (GEVS), SMC-S-016, MMPDS, etc.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint and Teams. Microsoft Project experience a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of mechanical / aerospace engineering to independently perform assignments.
- Ability to travel to support testing. Most of the travel is local but some overnight travel may be required.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.

Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position . An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will be considered for higher pay.
